Some 481 years after Spanish explorer Hernando de Alarcon sailed northward from Acapulco and discovered that California is not an island, 479 years after Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo sailed into San Diego Bay, 419 years after Sebastian Vizcaino explored the West Coast, 252 years after Father Junípero Serra established California’s first Spanish mission, 245 years after Juan Bautista de Anza reached San Francisco, 240 years after people were brought from Mexico to establish El Pueblo de la Reyna de Los Angeles, 200 years after Spanish California became Mexican California, and 171 years after California became a state of the union, do you understand why California DESERVES its first Hispanic U.S. Senator?
